Hand and Power Tool Safety

This Hand and Power Tools Safety training course provides employees with the knowledge needed to recognize hazards associated with the use of hand and power tools and understand the safe work practices necessary to prevent workplace injuries. The course introduces OSHA requirements and general safety principles for selecting, inspecting, operating, maintaining, and storing tools used in a variety of workplace environments.

Participants will learn to identify common hazards associated with hand tools and electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other powered tools. The training covers pre-use inspections, machine guards and safety devices, electrical hazards, proper tool selection, safe operating techniques, maintenance and storage, and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Emphasis is also placed on recognizing damaged or defective tools, maintaining a safe work area, and understanding the importance of following manufacturer instructions and employer-specific safety procedures.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to recognize common hand and power tool hazards, conduct basic pre-use inspections, identify appropriate protective measures, and follow safe operating practices that help prevent cuts, punctures, electrical shocks, eye injuries, struck-by incidents, and other tool-related injuries while supporting OSHA compliance and a safer workplace.
